A delegation of lawyers has headed to the Gaza Strip to collect evidence about the Israeli war on the besieged Palestinian territory in November 2012.
On Monday, the ten-member team, including seven Turkish lawyers, travelled to Gaza. Two Egyptian lawyers and a lawyer from Saudi Arabia also accompanied the team. Reports say that the delegation will be led by Necati Ceylan. the secretary general of the International Lawyers Association.
Members of the delegation say they plan to file a lawsuit against the Tel Aviv regime after finding convincing evidence with regard to crimes committed by Israel during the eight-day war on Gaza.
“If sufficient and convincing evidence is found, we will begin legal procedures against those who have committed the crimes. We will prepare a detailed report on Gaza and submit it to relevant Turkish officials,” said Refik Korkusuz, one of the members of the delegation.
According to the Israeli military, during the November war – between November 14 and 21 – more than 1,500 targets were hit across Gaza. Over 160 Palestinians, including women and children, were killed and about 1,200 others were injured in the Israeli attacks.
In retaliation, Palestinian resistance fighters fired rockets and missiles on Israeli cities, killing at least five Israelis.
The Israeli regime and the Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas agreed to an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire.
The November 2012 Israeli war on Gaza was Tel Aviv’s second deadly attack on the Palestinian strip in four years. Israeli regime also waged a 22-day war on the densely-populated enclave in 2008, which killed over 1,400 Palestinians, including at least 300 children.
