VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Benedict XVI announced Monday he would resign Feb. 28 because he is simply too old to carry on. Here is the text of his announcement, delivered to cardinals gathered for a ceremony to name three new saints.
“Dear Brothers,
I have convoked you to this Consistory, not only for the three canonizations, but also to communicate to you a decision of great importance for the life of the Church. After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry. I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only with words and deeds, but no less with prayer and suffering. However, in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me. For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter, entrusted to me by the Cardinals on 19 April 2005, in such a way, that as from 28 February 2013, at 20:00 hours, the See of Rome, the See of Saint Peter, will be vacant and a Conclave to elect the new Supreme Pontiff will have to be convoked by those whose competence it is.
Dear Brothers, I thank you most sincerely for all the love and work with which you have supported me in my ministry and I ask pardon for all my defects. And now, let us entrust the Holy Church to the care of Our Supreme Pastor, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and implore his holy Mother Mary, so that she may assist the Cardinal Fathers with her maternal solicitude, in electing a new Supreme Pontiff. With regard to myself, I wish to also devotedly serve the Holy Church of God in the future through a life dedicated to prayer.”
THEY STILL SLEEP, THE SHEEP!
Everyone who is awake that comes to this site has probably known, for quite some time now, that this pope was going to resign. This should be nothing new to us. We (who are awake, that is), have been following all of the changes in the world that lead up to this. For example:
1:Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands abdicates.
2:The currency wars that are now occurring.
3: The major financial institutions around the world (i.e. the IMF, The Federal Reserve, The Hague, The World Bank, and The United Nations) that have been foreclosed on.
Everything was leading up to this moment, and the ride (in my opinion) is only going to get a whole lot more bumpy after this. Personally, I can’t wait to see what happens because all of these things that are happening are only bringing us closer to one inevitable conclusion. Total and TRUE freedom for each and every human on this planet.

Yes, Moose, I do think that things are beginning to happen, and I don’t know for sure about the Queen, but I do know there are well-founded rumors about her resigning in the next couple weeks . . . Hugs, ~Jean

Wow – my first thought was of itccs.org, and whether a “life dedicated to prayer” meant he would be whisked away and protected…glad to see the Real conversations are taking place online.

David Clohessy, executive director of the Survivors’ Network of those Abused by Priests, an organisation with 12,000 members, said he hoped that the pope would “finally show some courageous leadership on the abuse crisis” in his remaining days, writes Karen McVeigh from New York.
Clohessy told the Guardian: “His record is terrible. Before he became pope his predecessor put him in charge of the abuse crisis. He has read thousands of pages of reports of the abuse cases from across the world.
“He knows more about clergy sex crimes and cover-ups than anyone else in the church yet he has done precious little to protect children.”
Clohessy said a big question for his successor is “what he will do in a very tangible way to safeguard children, deter cover-ups, punish enablers and chart a new course”.
He added: “What matters is not whether a statement is unprecedented but whether an action is affected. There are 30 bishops in the US [who] have posted on the diocese websites the names of predator priests. The pope should require bishops to do that and to work with secular lawmakers to reform archaic sex abuse laws so that predators from every walk of life faces justice.”
