Lawmakers from Western states said Friday that the time has come for them to take control of federal lands within their borders and suggested the standoff this month between a Nevada rancher and the federal government was a problem waiting to happen.

“What’s happened in Nevada is really just a symptom of a much larger problem,” Utah House Speaker Becky Lockhart, a Republican, told The Salt Lake Tribune.

The lawmakers — more than 50 of them from nine Western states — made their proclamations at the Legislative Summit on the Transfer for Public Lands, in Utah, which was scheduled before this month’s standoff between Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and the Bureau of Land Management.

The agency rounded up hundreds of Bundy’s cattle, saying he hasn’t paid more than $1 million in grazing fees he owes for trespassing on federal lands since the 1990s. But Bundy does not recognize federal authority on the land, which his family has used since the 1870s.

The agency released the cattle after a showdown last weekend with angry armed protesters whom Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid referred to as “domestic terrorists.”

Whether the federal government will use the courts system or other methods to try to resolve such disputes remains unclear. Reid, D-Nev., said earlier this week that he talked to Attorney General Eric Holder and that a task force might be formed, in response. However, the Justice Department did return a call Saturday seeking comment.

The idea of Western states taking control of parts of wide tracts of federal land is nothing new. Those involved in the so-called Sagebrush Rebellion and similar movements have argued for decades that states and local governments west of the Mississippi River often can best manage the land and that doing so would allow them to use it to improve their economies.

On Friday, political leaders from the nine states convened for the first time to talk about their joint goal of wresting control of oil-, timber -and mineral-rich lands away from the U.S. government, according to the paper.

“It’s simply time,” said Utah state Rep. Ken Ivory, a Republican who co-organized the summit with Montana state Sen. Jennifer Fielder. “The urgency is now.”

Utah GOP Sen. Mike Lee also spoke to the attendees.

Idaho Speaker of the House Scott Bedke argued that Idaho forests and rangeland managed by the state have suffered less damage and watershed degradation from wildfire than have lands managed by federal agencies, the newspaper reported.

The Associated Press also contributed to this report.

ITS TIME FOR THE ELECTED STATE OFFICIALS TO START DOING THEIR JOBS. Most of the past 200 yrs since the take-over by the Corporation called THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA should have occurred.
WE THE PEOPLE should have been more demanding of our “civil servants” and their moral, ethical, and legal obligations to us (that voted them into office). WE THE PEOPLE should have been more involved instead of just turning it over to those who “knew” more. The elected officials should have been more transparent. There is enough blame to go around.
NOW IS THE TIME to become responsible and accountable to Natural Law (National Liberty Alliance’s and see the various Corporations for what they truly are: UNCONSTITUTIONAL and therefore WE THE PEOPLE do not need to be slaves any longer.
WE THE PEOPLE need to dismantle all the Corporations just like the ITCCS.ORG is dismantling the criminal organization called the Catholic Church
IT IS ALWAYS EASY TO DO THE RIGHT THING but it is not always comfortable.
By the grace of God we have people like Cliven Bundy and Kevin Annett and Edward Snowden and unfortunately many people who stood up to the Corporation were murdered – they must not be forgotten or their lives, their works would have been in vain.

This may not be suitable for posting. Have this “itchy” feeling about all these stories coming together for a possible grand finale adios to the legendary wild wild West. The Bundy ranch is within a few miles of the Utah border, and in a relatively unpopulated area of rangeland. Las Vegas is 80 miles SW, and in their own world of selfish pleasures and distractions. It has been reported about a massive buildup of federal agents (“hundreds”) in Vegas — in cars — with an afterword concerning the possibility of incoming flights of agents. This story (here) has received national attention, and is still fresh and probably largely unnoticed at this date, especially the true issues involved, not just the intended focus of “Western states taking control” (“wresting control”), seemingly without any real justification other than claiming the land as their own, as “angry armed protesters.” Attempting to carry out a fed coup in a largely populated area would garner way too much attention. A 9-state sweep-in-one could be possibly planned in the Bundy Ranch area to achieve a nasty fait accompli without too many by-standing “witnesses”. I AM NOT A PERSON GIVEN TO WORST CASE SCENARIOS, but too many threads are moving closer to one another in my thinking. Air space closed for 30 days (except to the photographed chemtrail planes daily). Feds in cars are manpower boots on the ground. What military assets are within the several hundred mile radius — bases, air bases, armories, etc. — for bigger and heavier equipment ?? (Checking this out) I’m in major spiritual prayer warrior mode because of what I’m “seeing” in my heart. This article was a heads up for possible incoming false flag of the worst kind within our western states, not just a city or town or ranch.

This Grand Cross Alignment — so rare, so intense, so significant — may just be the grand crossroads for we the people.

Very interesting article on Ron Paul’s site delving into the history of the cattle industry.
