While fake news media obsesses over Trump, CIA document release exposes illegal schemes and global malfeasance

Public interest in leaked and declassified intelligence reports has surged in the era of WikiLeaks and Edward Snowden. But while media outlets focus on the antics of Donald Trump, they continue to ignore hugely revealing information that could really embarrass powerful leaders, organisations, and even entire countries. And recently, as WikiLeaks continues to uncover covert US actions around the world, the CIA has actually had to release documents itself.

Below are five key revelations from a recent document dump from the CIA. . . .

Conclusion: So there we go. Talk of destabilising other countries. An apparent lack of concern for human rights. And even some extrasensory perception for good measure. All in a day’s work at the CIA.

The Fourth Turning and Steve Bannon Pt. 1: Why He’s Wrong, Even Though He’s Right, by Harrison Koehli

If you’ve been following the lamestream fakenews media, you’ve probably heard about Steve Bannon’s “obsession” with the “dark theory” about an imminent “fourth turning” in America. Bannon is Trump’s chief strategist, so the idea is that he’s whispering in Trump’s ear and making his own agenda reality. If that’s the case, it’ll help to understand what Bannon may be whispering. See SOTT.net editor Andres Perezalonso’s piece, Trump, Bannon and the danger of self-fulfilling prophecies, for some of that.

Here I want to dig into this “fourth turning” I’ve been hearing so much about lately.

Trump’s plan to expand US nukes threatens world security: Analyst  . . . Will people be able to stop and consider if there is any truth to this man’ words?

A political analyst believes Trump’s plan to expand US nuclear arsenal is a “grave threat” to global security, adding that the last thing the world needs at this point is more nuclear weapons.

“Unfortunately Donald Trump does not seem to understand his obligations under past treaties nor does he understand the realities of the world which is threatened by this ultimate weapon,” Einar Tangen told Press TV in an interview on Friday.

He also noted that Trump has made a “radical departure” from the past, arguing that “he has literally turned the United States 180 degrees” not only on the issue of nuclear weapons but also in terms of trade.

The analyst went on to say that Trump’s insistence that he needs to be “number one is reminiscent of his time in reality TV and in business.”

However, he said, Trump needs to understand that he cannot impose his will upon others for being “number one” in the world, asserting that he cannot afford to be a “playground bully the way he was in his past life.”

Tangen also expressed hope that there would be people in Trump’s administration to explain the “cost and consequences of what he is proposing.”

The analyst further stated that Trump has no respect for “continuity” and for that reason he thinks that only he can “negotiate a good treaty or deal.”

“It is this kind of very odd idea that his ego is somehow a replacement for common sense,” he added.

Ukraine’s ousted President Yanukovich speaks out on Donbass

If Kiev can’t implement the Minsk agreements, Donbass region should be allowed to determine own fate, says the ex-President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovich.

Mr. Yanukovych ought to remember that there have been referenda in Donbass. Two of them in fact. In 2014 the people of Donetsk and Lugansk declared their intention to form sovereign republics on the basis of international self-determination. The referenda were peaceful and democratic, the response from Kiev has been aggressive, violent and civilians continue to die, lose their limbs, homes and way of life as a result.

Iraqi popular forces commander claims US forces trying to evacuate ISIL commanders from Tal Afar

Commander of Asa’eb al-Haq Movement affiliated to Iraqi popular forces of Hashd al-Shaabi said that the US forces have been trying hard to evacuate ISIL commanders from the besieged city of Tal Afar West of Mosul.

After photos surfaced in the media displaying US forces assisting ISIL terrorists, Javad al-Talaybawi said that the Americans are planning to take ISIL commanders away from Tal Afar that is under the Iraqi forces’ siege.

In the meantime, member of Iraqi Parliament’s Security and Defense Commission Iskandar Watut called for a probe into photos and footages displaying US planes airdropping aid packages over ISIL-held regions.

‘Saudi war killed over 12,000 Yemeni civilians’ . . . and the West remains silent!

Almost two years into the Saudi war on Yemen, a rights NGO says the military campaign has cost the lives of more than 12,000 civilians.

In a report released on Thursday, Yemen’s Legal Center for Rights and Development, an independent monitoring group, put the civilian death toll in war-torn Arab country at 12,041.

The fatalities, it said, comprise 2,568 children and 1,870 women.

The rights body said the bombings have also wounded 20,001 civilians, including 2,354 children and 1,960 women, while more than four million others have been displaced.

FSA, Turkish soldiers seize Al-Bab, Daesh on the ru

Sott Comment [attempts to explain this confusing situaitiion]: Russian and Turkish cooperation follows a January 12th agreement allowing their respective air forces to coordinate operations in Syria. At the time it was speculated that US involvement so close to the Turkish border would offer the Syrian Kurds an advantage, one Turkey doesn’t want. Keeping the Turkish forces and YPG separated and out of clash with the Syrian army, and the US-added consideration for a safe zone, has been a logistic challenge in this area. It all depends on well-organized cooperation and the willingness of the various factions to abide by unified decisions and to follow through as required.

ISIS ‘surrenders’ Syrian town of Al-Bab, Turkish military assumes control

Sott Comment: It is certainly curious to contemplate the behind-scenes deals taking place in Syria. 5000 trapped ISIS fighters allowed to walk does seem counter-intuitive to short-ending the overall ISIS threat and culminating the war in Syria (if that is your priority). While Al-Bab did not matter to ISIS, it is crucial to Turkey, given its location near the Turkish border. Perhaps the trade-off offered a sure-fire ‘claim to victory’ and occupation for Erdogan. But here’s the question: Was a deal also made to meet Erdogan’s real priority: elimination of the Kurds via 5000 grateful ISIS fighters?

I think it’s important to put the following video into context, although John McCain’s part in this came later. Where the Clinton’s are concerned, the Russian government may appear to be the bad guys, but they are not. At that tim, the United States under Reagan/Bush was colluding with the Russian Oligarchs to steal their assets and take down Russia, which they succeeded in doing. but that was not the Russia of Vladimir Putin. In other words, the Clintons and Bushes were working with the Russian Oligarchs who were willing to destroy their own country and steal its assets — and they basically succeeded. But this all happened well before Vladimir Putin came on board and began to clean the Russian swamp, a project which continues to this day,

Putin: Russia aims to stabilize legitimate authority in Syria . . . Can our troops be proud of their own efforts, and how do we thank them?

Russian President Vladimir Putin says his country has no plans to interfere in Syria’s internal affairs and its aim is to stabilize the legitimate government in the Arab country which is battling terrorists.

“Our task is to stabilize the legitimate authority in the country and strike a decisive blow against international terrorism,” Putin said at a Thursday meeting in Moscow with officers returning from combat in Syria.

The Russian leader further expressed hope for the success of a political settlement in Syria, saying it will help defeat the “terrorist malaise.”

“The sooner the country reaches a political settlement, the better the chances for the international community to put an end to the terrorist plague on Syrian territory,” he said.

Putin hailed the role played by the Russian naval forces in combating terrorism, singling out the Northern Fleet, which includes Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier group, and was deployed to the Mediterranean off the Syrian coast.

“You have fulfilled all the tasks that were given to you and inflicted significant damage to the international terrorist groups by hitting their bases, ammunition storages, equipment, and infrastructure,” he said.
